Every Bird is Cute

Feb 23

I have seen so many kinds of Wisconsin birds this winter.
I started my bird watching project January 1st a day after my best friend Raita did in Tuvalu.  She is in a different time zone them I am.

I would really like to see one of the cutest birds this winter, the Snowy Owl. I know we will see lots and lots of tourists from out-of-state walking around Kickapoo Valley with their thick winter coats and binoculars if the Snowy Owl comes here again.

Two years ago when I was by the Great River Road I saw cute group of American White Pelicans floating by in the Mississippi River.
Kirby said birds are slobs but I think he is just being difficult with me because he likes me.  That’s what my friend Raita thinks.

I think Kirby has his merits but birds are cute and
very organized not slobs.

My Chipmunk Dream

Apr 16

BeatricesDream

Last night I had the strange CHIPMUNK dream again. I was a chipmunk running through our backyard. And for some reason I decide to run up to the big glass window near our kitchen door.

As I came closer to the kitchen the sun reflected a rainbow off the window’s glass. Through the rainbow I saw Myles and my animal friends staring at me. They were in their usual spot by the glass door of our back porch. They were smiling at me and pointing. I stood on my hind legs, and sniffed the air. I then heard a hawk’s shrill call and jumped to the grass. I flattened myself out as I saw a large black shadow on the grass get larger and larger. I heard a loud THUD
and then woke up.

Very weird dream!

The Muskrats Misspelled

Muskrat Vaudeville

The number one Muskrat Vaudeville Show on Earth

I just got back from seeing my second Muskrat Vaudeville show live.
I really enjoyed seeing all the muskrats perform crazy tricks,
and stunts. I know animals are polite as are some humans. But
someone needs to tell the muskrats that they mispelled the word
Vaudeville on their lighted sign. The sign is up during the whole
show so you never forget that the muskrats can’t spell some words,
well one specific word.

I do recommend you see the show if you are around our part of Wisconsin
just don’t tell the muskrats about their error.

Earth Day is coming!

EARTH DAY is only eight days away! My forest friends and I have so many exciting things we are doing to celebrate EARTH DAY.

We are alway thinking that EARTH DAY is everyday. We try to make small changes in our lives to help the PLANET.

What are you doing to celebrate Earth Day?

fly fast. Here is a checklist for you to use when you go
birdwatching.

SWIFTS ETC.

  • Common Nighthawk

Thank you. Have a Nice Day!

Red Squirrel Moves In

Apr 08

redsquirrel

It’s after school and Myles and I were chased in front of our house. We had to run onto the porch quickly because there is a turf war. The red squirrel has taken over our front yard by the porch and doesn’t like us around.

I do not eat acorns so I do not know why the squirrel is chasing us all around the yard. We are not squirrels either, and do not need to live in trees.

Leave us alone!

Happy Spring Wisconsin!

Mar 27

springishereToday the sun was out! The snow is melting off our roof and dripping on to our porch. We have a lot of snow around the Kickapoo Valley, so I can still use my snow
shoes.

I don’t want to forget to tell you that I am growing snow peas, lettuce, and tomatoes in my hoop houses! I am also building a terrarium that people can put on their bikes.

But the most important thing to report is Spring is here, and the Red wing Blackbirds have returned too!

Today I went up the hill behind our house and looked at Asimina my favorite tree in the whole world. She is so beautiful every season. I imagined it was Summer and I was visiting her,
with Myles, and my forest friends. I imagined she had Paw Paw fruit in her branches and that we would be bringing the harvest to our house.

Chipmunk salsa buffet

Sep 15

Today, Myles and our animal friends watched the chipmunks through the screen door on the back porch the whole day. There is a rumor in the forest valley that the chipmunks are opening and all-you-can-eat salsa buffet. There is already an all-you-can-eat nacho chips buffet near our house that some other chipmunks opened.

My mom said she hopes that the new salsa buffet opening does not mean that the hot peppers and tomatoes in our gardens start disappearing.

Cute mobiles

Aug 19

Hand made mobilesToday, my friends and I made mobiles from the recycled papers we found at the paper co-op in our town. The mobiles are so cute, and easy to make. To start, find six sheets of recycled colored paper that you like. Next, begin by drawing flowers, or trees or birds, on your colored recycled paper. Now draw some circles that are large enough to surround your cute flowers, or trees on a piece paper.

Make sure you have two pieces of paper paired together for each circle and the cute drawing you made. Now use mom or dad approved scissors and cut out your flowers or trees out. When you are done cutting you will have two flowers or trees. Cut out your circles so you have six circles. Finally, glue the two circles together and two cute flowers to each side of some used or recycled black string.

And now you have your own mobile that you made yourself!.

Chipmunk hunting

Myles spent the entire day looking out the sliding glass door on our porch watching chipmunks. Myles head moved back and forth as he watched the chipmunks. His ears twitched as he listened closely to what the chipmunks might be saying about him or our house. Maybe the chipmunks were not talking at all, but they were noisy for Myles.

When you have a healthy, backyard garden animals will live and play in it. And a healthy backyard garden helps animals and the planet.
