Myles and I thought he was gone but actually the squirrel was on vacation for two weeks! A robin told us the Red Squirrel had gone to Cicero, Illinois for rest and recreation. I don’t know anything about Cicero, Illinois maybe for squirrels it is a lovely place to visit this time of year.
I don’t care where the Red Squirrel took his vacation. He’s back now and as mean as ever. Today, the Red Squirrel returned to the Oak Tree dumping bird seed husks down on us! Myles and I had to run fast to our porch. This time I think I saw the Red Squirrel holding a large basket. Where did he get that from Cicero?
When Myles wants me to play with him he walks up to me and
drops his ball on my foot. I am glad the ball is made of
recycled paper and not a bowling ball. Today he wanted
me to play the game he invented.
The game does not have a winner or loser. Maybe Myles
is the winner since got me to stop studying and play
As you know his invented game involves him going to the
top of the stairs and dropping the ball down all the steps
to me. Then according to game rules I am supposed to throw
ball up to him. He catches the ball with his mouth and
then politely drops the ball on the step below him.
The ball bounces down all the steps to the bottom
where I am.
However, he only drops said ball if I use the command “Drop It.” Otherwise he just sits on the landing at the top of the steps and plays by himself with the ball. Or he likes to drop his front paws over the edge of the landing and look down at me and wait for me to plead for him to drop the ball.
It is a fun game to play with him but I always get tired before
As I mentioned to you yesterday, I am starting a Great Year LIST for
WISCONSIN FISH. I know I said I am including any Wisconsin fish I
eat in the list. Yuck! I did not think about seeing one of the fish
on my list carried away by Myles. He found a dead,
ORANGE SPOTTED SUNFISH by the side of the Kickapoo River and was
carrying it around in his mouth!
I chased after Myles and told him to drop the fish, but that made him only run faster. Finally, I yelled “Yummies! Yummies!,” and he stopped
in his tracks and turned around. YUMMIES are the word we taught him for
snacks, or treats.
Myles walked up to me with the fish in his mouth and then sat politely
in front of me waiting for me to give him a snack! Then I said “Drop It!”
and he carefully let the fish fall out of his mouth onto the rocks.
I picked up the rotten fish by the tail and threw it into the river.
Today, Myles and our animal friends watched the chipmunks through the screen door on the back porch the whole day. There is a rumor in the forest valley that the chipmunks are opening and all-you-can-eat salsa buffet. There is already an all-you-can-eat nacho chips buffet near our house that some other chipmunks opened.
My mom said she hopes that the new salsa buffet opening does not mean that the hot peppers and tomatoes in our gardens start disappearing.
Dear Diary, today we gave Myles a bath. He does not mind getting a bath in the summer because he knows the water cools him down. He is a very helpful dog he lifts each of his paws so we can clean each of his legs. When we were finished washing Myles we remove the water from the bathtub with small, recycled plastic pots. We use Myles’ bath water for watering the indoor herb garden in our kitchen.
Bath water is REUSABLE and also known as GRAY WATER. Why is it called gray water? It is called gray water because the water looks gray from the dirt and soap. You can also use the gray water from washing dishes in the kitchen to water your garden too!
When you have a healthy, backyard garden animals will live and play in it. And a healthy backyard garden helps animals and the planet.
