Ramp and Watercress Soup

Apr 16

sweetpotatosoup

Last night I made my family Sweet Potato Soup with Ramp and Watercress. All of the ingredients of the soup were from our farm!
Since it is Spring the watercress and ramp are plentiful in streams.
I picked a bunch of watercress and ramp yesterday, and got three
pounds of sweet potato from our storage.

My soup was very tasty and I am going to have it for breakfest
with wild rice!

Very delicious, and I am getting hungry again thinking
about my wonderful soup.

Thank you.

My Vinegar Library (part 2)

Apr 11

vinegars2

I think I have the world’s largest vinegar library. I have all kinds of vinegars in jars from A to Z. Now Kirby says he has a bigger vinegar library than I do. What he doesn’t know is that during the winter my forest friends helped me create 24 new recipes! I now have 137 different vinegars to choose from.

Some of the new recipes I think animals would like better than humans.
That is not surprising since some of the newest recipes come from muskrats, woodchucks, and a black bear. Maybe some people will not like ants in their vinegar.

Anyone one in my hometown can borrow any vinegars if they want to use a jar for dinner or lunch. My friends also borrow my recipe cards if they
like a vinegar in the library.

Valentine’s Day ice hearts

Jan 17

Today my friends surprised me! After school they led me up the hill back behind my house. And there for my eyes to see was beautiful Asmina the Paw Paw tree with pretty pink hearts made from ice hanging from her branches. My forest friends all screamed at once Happy Valentine’s Day Beatrice! I didn’t want to ruin their surprise and tell them that Valentine’s Day is on February 14th not today. I think they want Asimina to look pretty all winter with the pink ice hearts.

My forest friends made the cute hearts by freezing water and cherry juice (from a Wisconsin orchard) in old, tin butter molds shaped like hearts they got from Virgina’s Attic an antique store owned by three wonderful woodchucks.

Bees and brown flowers

May 30

no brown flower soapYesterday, Kirby and I made soap. I wanted to make flower-shaped soap but he only wanted
to make robot-shaped soap. Since we were in my house we made flower-shaped soaps. Kirby made a lot of green and brown flowers. He is so crazy there are no brown flowers in nature. Bees aren’t going to visit brown flowers? Bees like pretty flowers like I made, pinks, purples, and blues.
