I have seen so many kinds of Wisconsin birds this winter.
I started my bird watching project January 1st a day after my best friend Raita did in Tuvalu. She is in a different time zone them I am.
I would really like to see one of the cutest birds this winter, the Snowy Owl. I know we will see lots and lots of tourists from out-of-state walking around Kickapoo Valley with their thick winter coats and binoculars if the Snowy Owl comes here again.
Two years ago when I was by the Great River Road I saw cute group of American White Pelicans floating by in the Mississippi River.
Kirby said birds are slobs but I think he is just being difficult with me because he likes me. That’s what my friend Raita thinks.
I think Kirby has his merits but birds are cute and
very organized not slobs.
Today, Myles and I rode with Dad through the green valleys
around our house. It is so beautiful living here in Wisconsin.
I wish my friends in Tuvalu would visit me this summer. I know they would love it here. I could also teach them about foraging for different edible plants up the valley and in the prairie.
The winter might be too cold for them but I think they would enjoy snow shoeing, sledding and even ice fishing too.
Dear Diary, I know I told you about my Dad saving snow. What I didn’t tell you is that he does not remove snow from the ground where there is soil or plants. He only collects the snow off our many roofs on our farm, and some places where there are slabs of concrete. The old slabs are on our farm from the previous farmer. A tornado many years ago past through and took away some of the farmer’s barns!
If you have any ideas about new uses for slabs of concrete email me at:
Thank you. Enjoy Spring!

I think I have the world’s largest vinegar library. I have all kinds of vinegars in jars from A to Z. Now Kirby says he has a bigger vinegar library than I do. What he doesn’t know is that during the winter my forest friends helped me create 24 new recipes! I now have 137 different vinegars to choose from.
Some of the new recipes I think animals would like better than humans.
That is not surprising since some of the newest recipes come from muskrats, woodchucks, and a black bear. Maybe some people will not like ants in their vinegar.
Anyone one in my hometown can borrow any vinegars if they want to use a jar for dinner or lunch. My friends also borrow my recipe cards if they
like a vinegar in the library.
We heard their calls yesterday, and looked up into the sky and saw
the long winged, giants flying over. The Sandhill Cranes are back!
Today my friends and I sat on the bench by the marsh near my house
and watched the sandhill cranes perform.
We sat quiet on the bench and waited for them to appear.
It is funny to watch the cranes disappear behind the reeds, and then see
their heads rise over the top. The cranes heads lowered again behind the
reeds only to appear above the reeds two minutes later, each looking in a different direction.
We never know where the cranes will appear next. Sandhill Crane Theater is fun to watch everyday! Try it soon. Thank you!
Today was so exciting, when I got home from school my Mom gave me an envelope. It was a letter from my best friend in Tuvalu, Raita! It was great to hear from her again. She sent me a photo of her and my friends from school.
Raita asked me when I am coming home to Tuvalu again, I hope to be back soon maybe after school in the Summer. I want to invite my friends from Tuvalu to come to Wisconsin to visit me on my farm. I know they would enjoy meeting all my friends in the Kickapoo Valley, and my best friend in the U.S., Jezebel.
After I do my homework I am writing Raita a letter, and sending her some seeds I saved from my vegetable garden last year. I need to buy more stamps. I love visiting the Post Office, I like collecting American and Tuvaluan stamps. I always like to see the newest stamps available at the Post Office. My favorite stamps are the ones that have cartoons or flowers on them.
See you later!

I don’t want to forget to tell you that I am growing snow peas, lettuce, and tomatoes in my hoop houses! I am also building a terrarium that people can put on their bikes.
But the most important thing to report is Spring is here, and the Red wing Blackbirds have returned too!
Today I went up the hill behind our house and looked at Asimina my favorite tree in the whole world. She is so beautiful every season. I imagined it was Summer and I was visiting her,
with Myles, and my forest friends. I imagined she had Paw Paw fruit in her branches and that we would be bringing the harvest to our house.
I have not written in you for over a month. Why? I forgot where
I put you. I think the last time I wrote I had to give Myles a bath
before I went to bed. I also had to brush Myles’ fur and when I put away his brush I also put you away in a closet where we keep the dog supplies.
I am happy to find you diary. You must have missed me. I found you just in time for one of my favorite months April. April is one of my favorite months because people around the world celebrate Earth Day
and Arbor Day!
